Team Cutting Edge Kettlebells at the Temecula Mud Run

A great time was had by all 29!!! of us who participated in the Temecula Mud Run last weekend at Vail Lake. Young and old, we all got good and muddy while running the 5K race. Our own Louie and Eric ran the 10K race and came in well under 2 hours even though the obstacles were crazy! The course consisted of 6 large mud pits, too many obstacles to count, as well as very steep mountains. The 5K course had a very steep hill on the second half of the course, but the 10K race had 3! Kudos to Louie who ran the entire race with no training other than kettlebells. We all found that that our kettlebell training helped with our endurance. Most of us have not run since the Temecula Wine Run last November, yet we all made it through the race without feeling as if we should have trained for it. We can’t wait for the next mud run!

Team Kettlebell Wine Run

IMG 1256 300x225 Team Kettlebell Wine RunTeam CEKB showed that after training with kettlebells running a 5K is easy! We had runners of all ages, from teens to 50 plus for our first team Wine Run. We started the morning out right running 3.2 miles through wine country and then finished with wine and beer tasting. Thanks to everyone who got out of their warm beds and spent the morning showing how amazing kettlebell training is for overall fitness. Not one of us runs regularly, yet all of us finished in a respectable time. Kudos to Riley for finishing 2nd among all the 11 to 19 year old runners, and to Lulie M for finishing first out of all of us 20+’ers! Check the board at the gym for details on our next outing – coming soon!

CEKB Night at the Storm Game

IMG 0665 300x300 CEKB Night at the Storm GameLast Saturday we had our first CEKB night out at the Lake Elsinore Storm Game. It was great to see our members and their families outside the gym and in real clothes. We clean up good!

The night began with a fun, tailgate dinner and drinks in the 90 degree heat. We had homemade meatballs & sauce on rolls, cilantro chicken tacos, chips & salsa, Terry’s awesome pesto bites, and two of our favorites of the night, Lynn’s Cole Slaw and Jessi’s Banana Apple mostly-paleo muffins. Lynn and Jessi were kind enough to share their recipes with everyone – so here they are. I have included nutrition info for both as they can occasionally fit into the Carb Rotation numbers. Lynn’s Cole Slaw is a carb option with very little fat and protein and Jessi’s muffins are a good protein / carb snack with very little fat. If you like Jessi’s muffins, check out her Paleo cooking blog PaleoFrigginDelish where you will find amazing paleo and gluten-free recipes – although you will not find this recipe there because the protein powder is not considered “paleo”. I still consider these muffins amazing!

5 Or Die Version 1.5

5Diev152 5 Or Die Version 1.5 I must say there is a hole in my workout where the 5 or Die Challenge used to be. Surprisingly,  I’m not the only one here at CEKB who feels this way. There’s only one way to fill this hole. It’s time for a new challenge!

Starting Monday, July 9 we will have 7 1/2 weeks to go until Labor Day Weekend.  We considered many names and ideas for a 7 1/2 week challenge (7 1/2 or Vomit, 7.5 Let My Thighs Thrive, 7.5 Try to Survive) and decided if it’s not broken, why fix it?  Everyone liked 5 or Die for the most part. Let’s do an upgrade, get rid of the bugs and add some new cool features.  It’s 5 or Die Version 1.5!

5 or Die Version 1.5 will be 1.5 times as long as the original 5 or Die Challenge. We will begin this coming Monday, July 9 and end on Thursday, August 30, for a total of 7 1/2 weeks.  If you did not participate in the beta version of 5 or Die or forgot to weigh in at the end, we will be doing weigh ins Monday – Thursday of next week during regular gym hours.

We have fixed some bugs in the beta challenge. One big bug was scheduling challenges 7 days per week. Everyone needs one day off for recovery, and their sanity.  Version 1.5 challenges will be posted 6 days a week, Monday – Saturday, at 5:00 AM.  Please continue to post your times and comments on our site and Facebook Fan Page. We love comments!

Group classes will continue during this challenge period.  The morning class will be held at 8:30 AM Mondays and Wednesdays and 9:30 AM Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Afternoon group class will be held at 4:30 PM.  Each class will last approximately 45 minutes and begin with stretching, TGU’s, Fighter Pullups, the daily workout and end with the 5 or Die v 1.5 Challenge of the Day.

New members are always welcome! Give us a call at 951-473-5159 to get started today.
