Fixing your Mindset to achieve your Fitness Goals

small 3890925309 Cake Power “I’m going to a birthday party this weekend and I can’t have cake. It’s so hard to sit next to my son while he’s eating cake and not take a bite.” This sad statement, accompanied by a large sigh, was the first thing I heard as I walked into the gym this morning, and it’s only Wednesday.

As Program Director here at CEKB, I listen to clients talk about food a lot. They talk about how much they can’t live without certain foods, which foods they like, dislike, and about recipes they have concocted to make their Carb Rotation diet more enjoyable. The last two weeks have also been filled with talk of food they can’t eat.

I don’t know if I’m more sensitive to this negative talk due to the fact that I am at the tail end of my training and cut for my next bikini competition, or if the negative talk has actually increased, spreading like a disease through my dieting members. What I do know is that having a negative mindset can not only make you miserable at social functions, it can ruin your chances at achieving your fitness goals.

I’m no psychologist, but I know that your attitude greatly influences outcome. If you believe you can do something, you have a much higher likelihood of actually doing it. Likewise, if you start your day believing you can’t make it through your luncheon or neighborhood barbecue without devouring the dessert table, your hopes of sticking to your nutrition plan are history.

Remember your goals and why you made them. Is the piece of cake more important than your health or the people who love you? Or on a more selfish note, is the piece of cake worth not fitting into your cute shorts on the 4th of July? I promise you cake will still exist and be legal to purchase once you have met your goals.

Also remember who has the power. I would much rather make my own choices than be told I can’t do something. It gives me the power and control instead of feeling bullied or restricted. I am choosing not to eat the cake. I am not being told I can’t have it. I am much stronger than a piece of cake and refuse to let it have power over me! Rawrrr!

It’s really all about keeping a positive mindset. Next time you are faced with the dreaded birthday party, instead of saying, “I can’t have a piece of cake,” try saying, “I am choosing not to have a piece of cake.” Adding a smile while you say it doesn’t hurt either icon smile Cake Power
